# VIII. Lack of Interoperability

Traditional financial systems and decentralized finance (DeFi) platforms currently function in largely independent ecosystems, with very few efficient connections linking the two. This separation makes it challenging for users to easily move between fiat currencies and crypto assets, creating a disjointed experience when trying to use both in everyday financial transactions.

For example, individuals looking to convert their earnings in cryptocurrencies into fiat for routine expenses or, conversely, trying to invest fiat into DeFi protocols, often encounter cumbersome processes, high fees, and long wait times.

Users are forced to rely on third-party intermediaries, such as centralized exchanges, to bridge the gap between these two financial worlds. This not only adds complexity but also increases costs and undermines the decentralized nature of DeFi. The absence of smooth, instant conversions between fiat and crypto hinders DeFi’s potential to serve as a mainstream financial alternative, limiting its accessibility for the average user.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://rcofinance.gitbook.io/whitepaper/market-challenges/viii.-lack-of-interoperability.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
